It's just the uber-rich PvE-ers that don't want anyone else to get any form of wealth, because then they might notice they're entire life got wasted accumulating wealth in an MMORPG than in real life.

I just spent 200k on zai keys, best i got was a dead sword req12. I think I helped the ecomomy by buying all those worthless keys, suckers always help the economy. Zaishen keys are for suckers, economy wins. I knew I shoulda sold my gold instead. Oh well... I did make all that gold off selling charr carving to suckers at 100g each during wintersday, I guess it all balances out.

It's funny, I haven't seen the prices at the merchant change at all....

WELL, I GUESS THE ECONOMY IS FINE AFTERALL!

Unless you are the kind of elitist a-hole who complains when the price of AoT's and Uber Rare skinned weapons fluctuates and no longer allows you to make a profit off of farming them and selling to vain idiots.

Then yes, the economy may be a bit torqued.

No this isnt a blast at PvP players, yes they deserve a reward. However didn't they get thier elite skin unlocks as a reward?

After this PvP chest began dropping its PvE rewards the prices of items dropped significantly. While many would think this is a good thing it also meant that people nolonger would bother selling items that are not perfect or highly in demand. Items that used to be an easy sell are now impossible to get rid of save to the merchants. And the ultra rare items are still outragously priced.
Well, to be fair, non perfect stuff has always been a bit difficult to sell.

And just a point on the PVE-PVP thing.

PVE players will tend to just farm the Zaishen Elite for a key (1 a day) or farm the 3K it costs to buy one, since that takes less time to farm 3 platinum than 5k Balthazar faction (once you go beyond the Zaishen cap). I always saw this as being Anet's reward to avid PVP players, allowing them to get money easily without having to PVE farm as well as giving them something to do with faction once they had nothing more to unlock.

So where do you see this destruction of economy again?
Because what "you do" doesn't effect the economy per say by itself. You have to be concerned about what the other 3.99 million people playing are doing.

Edit: Anyway, NF screwed up the economy LONG before the chest came out. Not only inscriptions, but also the massive amount of gold that flew into the system from certain chest chains and events. Free Treasure Chests giving out ~15k per character per month for example.

The Zaishen Chest is nothing compared to the econimic disasters that were Nightfall's inscribables and HardMode's insane gold item drop rates (drops, solo hm farms and hm locked chest runs made it possible for one person to 'produce' 10-20+ golds per hour) combined with loot scaling greatly reducing cash influx.
The Z chest's drop tables are pretty well done, the potential rewards are very valuable but also very rare. It can take 100s of keys to get something worthwhile, it's a massive gambling machine where the PvP players sell the tickets (or just gamble themselves).

Now the chest contains some items previously unavailable in inscribable form or available this way only in HoH chest. This makes the chest worthwhile and the drops valuable. This also causes some degree of undermining the value of the rare perfect or even more the near perfect oldschool golds. Some skins became much more common thanks to this chest. For example compare Eternal Blades price before Zaishen chest and after.

But the relatively small damage the chest caused in general was well worth it. An universal reward system for PvP, a way to spend those millions of Balth Faction was needed much more.

Now the most important thing is to preserve the current state of the economy, as the damage done by the massive catastrophes in the past cannot be undone, it can be only worse. An example act of utter stupidity would be making all items in Tyria and Cantha (and UW/FoW) drop inscribable - the effect would be devastating, hardmode overfarm would turn the vast majority of the still valuable part Zaishen Chest's drop pool into common worthless crap comparable to NF ones. Few would be the remaining valuable drops, Zaishen Key prices would drop to or under lockpick value, in the effect not only the collector of cool rare stuff but all the PvP players would lose a lot.

Change in the economy does not equal "destruction" of the economy. Newsflash - prices may vary. Just because certain items were once worth millions are now worth a fraction of that does not mean the economy is anything but healthy. Inscriptions changed things up, but those who agree with them will readily say that change was for the better.

The economy is hardly stable, but stability is not the sign of a 'good' or 'working' economy. Especially a video game one that has gold and items flowing in like water, and the only thing to combat the flow is gold sinks and a merchant that makes items go "poof!"

boy did you miss the whole point of zaishen chests! they were not put there for PvE players. they were put into the game after years of complaining from PvP players that they had nothing to do with their balthazar faction after UAX, which was a very valid complaint. (tournament tokens hardly count as a reward) skin unlocks are only available to those who play in ATS, which is only for GvG and HB. AB, RA, TA, and HA players need rewards also. what do all forms of PvP have in common? balthazar faction. zaishen keys are the solution for rewarding ALL PvP players equally.

ultra rare items will always be insanely priced - its the nature of the market. the zaishen chest did not cause that...that's how its always been. the economy in this game has been borked from the beginning.

Seriously, who cares about the market for extremely rare high-end skins - or for creme brulees for that matter?

May it crash and burn.

I can't see all the obsession with a virtual economy. I'm more concerned about prices in RL and paying bills.

In RL and GW I have enough to meet expenses, plus a reserve, so I don't really care about GW economy. It's just a game!

Well, it's similar to when someone is paid with a fake bill:
You can either resign yourself that you have been scammed to get something that is not worth what they told you or you can be an evil son of a grawl and go saddle someone else with it.

Those that paid 100k+e for items want those item to keep those values, even if those values where never unintended to be like that.
Prices where 'fixed' and some people cannot just accept it.

Things like those happen al the time in Stock Exchange.
